Serving without expectation of reward
This parable teaches us to have the right attitude when serving God. The laborers who were hired first expected that they would be paid first. They also expected that since they had started working first, they would be paid more. However God generously rewards all who serve Him. We cannot serve God with a calculative heart. We should not expect to receive more from God in return because we contribute more than others. When we compare ourselves with others, it leads to bitterness. Instead we should rejoice when more people join the work to build God’s Kingdom. A true servant of God serves without the expectation of reward (Luke 17:10).

What does this passage teach us about our attitude towards serving God?
Sacrificial service.
True leaders are called to serve by putting the needs of others before themselves. Leaders must lead by example. Jesus calls us to follow His example by laying down our lives for others. He suffered on behalf of all people so that none of us have to suffer. Jesus did not come to build a large following but sacrificed Himself for others. Godly leadership is not about chasing higher positions but learning to go lower. Jesus calls us to take on the position of a servant to selflessly help those around us. He calls us to go a step lower by becoming slaves. We are to be completely subordinate to God’s will. And we are to give of ourselves to others without asking for anything in return.

What does passage teach us about Godly leadership?
How can we learn from Jesus’ example of being a servant?
Compassion for others.
Jesus stopped for people in need. The two blind men were desperately trying to get Jesus attention. The others probably thought that Jesus should not be bothered with their requests. But the blind men were not willing to give up even when others discouraged them. Their faith caught the attention of Jesus! Jesus was on His way to fulfil His mission in Jerusalem. He could have walked right past the blind men. But Jesus chose to stop for them. We must learn to make time for people because ministry is about people. Jesus calls is to choose compassion over convenience. We must never become so caught up with ministry that we forget to minister to those we meet along the way.
